AAS Announces 2022 Provincial Team Coaches
Alberta Artistic Swimming is excited to announce the Provincial Team Coaching Staff for the 2022 season.
Head Coaches include Kaila Risling (11-12) and Jenn Battista (13-15), with Cassandra Winkelaar as Assistant Coach. Please see below for Coach bios.
The AAS Provincial Team will compete at the 2022 SYNC Competition July 14-18, 2022 held at Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton, AB. SYNC is hosted in partnership with Alberta Artistic Swimming, Ontario Artistic Swimming and Natation Artistique Québec. SYNC is the qualifying event for Youth Worlds 2022 and the 13-15 Provincial Team will have the opportunity to qualify to represent Canada.
Team Selection will at the Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton, AB on May 28, 2022.
Kaila is an Artistic Swimming Coach, Personal Trainer and Flexibility Instructor. She has been coaching with the Red Deer Silhouettes since 2017 and is experienced working with all Provincial Stream age groups.
Kaila’s educational background includes: Advanced Coaching Diploma, Personal Fitness Trained Diploma, Certified module three Alixia Flexibility Instructor, and Trained NCCP Gymnastics Foundation Coach.
Jenn is an Artistic Swimming Coach with a deep passion for the sport and for helping athletes develop and grow their athletic abilities and key life skills that will continue to benefit them long after they leave the pool. She has nine years experience coaching with the Calgary Aquabelles at the Provincial and National Stream levels, including experience leading teams in 11-12, 13-15 PS and 13-15 NS.
In addition to her experience coaching Artistic Swimming, Jenn has over 25 years experience building high performance teams in a corporate environment and is the parent and cheerleader of two elite athletes. These experiences have added tips and tools to her toolbox that she uses to help create a positive, challenging and fulfilling training environment to enable her athletes to reach their highest potential as a team and as individuals.
Cassandra is an Introduction to Competition Coach who has been coaching with the Aquabelles on and off since 2018. Last season, she coached the 13-15 Provincial Stream team which included Novice and 11-12 athletes, and Figures for 13-15 National Stream teams.
Cassandra has a wealth of experience as a recent athlete herself. She was a member of the 2015 Canada Winter Games Team, 2014-2015 13-15 Team, 2016-2018 Junior Team and 2019-2021 Senior National Team. She loves inspiring young athletes to develop skills in all areas to reach their best potential.
Bethany is an Artistic Swimming Coach and Msc. student studying Biomechanics. They have coached for a variety of clubs in the Edmonton area since 2017 and currently coaches for Excel Artistic Swimming and Synatics. They have experience coaching Provincial Stream and Athletes with Disabilities.
Thanks to their degree in Kinesiology, Bethany has a wealth of knowledge relating to exercise physiology, biomechanics. They also have experience with more advanced lifting and resistance training
As a coach they enjoy fostering a collaborative environment with their athletes and encouraging creativity and a lifelong love of sport.
